I enjoy articles published by competent journalists.
Big ups to my main man Turk for the text this morning and putting me up on this piece from Jane Ridley of The New York Daily News on the greatest neighborhood in the world!
Nice to see Pete Iulo, bartender at Farrell’s quoted.
The nabe’s best-known watering hole is 78-year-old Farrell’s Bar and Grill (215 Prospect Park West), now fitted with a new electric sign. The original, installed in 1933, collapsed after last year’s epic Dec. 26 snowstorm and was moved inside. A favorite among police officers and firefighters, the pub only began to serve women in the 1970s when actress Shirley MacLaine strolled in without a chaperone and demanded a drink. “Now we welcome everybody,” says bartender Pete Iulo, 53, who has worked there for 30 years.
Pete’s always been a good guy; huge NY Jets and Mets fan.
By the way, I’m reading Pete Hamill’s Memoir, ‘A Drinking Life’. I strongly suggest you run out and pick up a copy, ASAP.
