Good story on Gerard Trapp – not only was G-Man a great basketball player, he was a better person. And yes, he was my idol growing up.

Former Duke football coach David Cutliffe once said;
“Be where you’re supposed to be. Doing what you’re supposed to be doing. Doing it as well as you can possibly do it.”
Man-O-Man if I would have known this as a teenager, things would have been a lot better for me down the road. Being responsible and accountability. Two important traits to get through this thing called life.
Hope all is well. Happy Holidays…
Do they still have Midnight Mass at Holy Name?

I was so poor as a kid…
One day I asked my mother if I could attend the Y.B.A. (a basketball clinic for kids at the Y.M.C.A. on 9th street). Mom said no. She told me to go to the schoolyard.
I was so poor as a kid…
One day Mom brought home a pair of reject sneakers from the Junk Shop on 5th avenue. Jimmy Cullen and Michael Campbell had $20 Puma. Everyone seemed to have Chuck Taylor Converse All-Stars except me.
I was so poor as a kid…
On Friday night when my friends were hanging out at Joe’s Pizza on Prospect and Ninth, I was home sitting at the kitchen table eating fishcakes and beans.
I was so poor as a kid…
We were on welfare. We received a check from the Government every month. I would walk with mom to Stavenhagen on 5th avenue to cash it. Mom bought the groceries with food stamps. Some days she would send me to Key Food with a list of items and the stamps. After gathering the things on the list I would wait by the checkout counter until the store was empty before paying. I was embarrassed.
I was so poor as a kid…
As a student at Holy Name there were months mom was behind on the tuition. Not to mention late with the rent.
I was so poor as a kid…
Oftentimes when I attended Mass on Sunday, they passed the collection basket around but I never contributed. Come to think of it, I had thoughts of snatching cash OUT of the basket.
I was so poor as a kid…
For lunch mom would send me to Snow White Dairy for 4 rolls, a dollar’s worth of bologna. She gave me $2. Rolls were twenty-five cents each. You do the math.
I was so poor as a kid…
One night my friends and I were hanging out in Prospect Park drinking Wild Irish Rose (it cost .99) my girlfriend Maureen was singing out loud, “EVEN THOUGH WE AIN’T GO MONEY, I’M SO IN LOVE WITH YA HONEY…”
Hope all is well.
Happy Holidays to all…

Posted Be Nice
inThis past Wednesday there was a school shooting one hour away from where I live. It’s scary to think about. I work full-time at a wonderful high school; these shootings can happen anywhere.
I was doing some research this morning on school shootings in the past and also read a few articles on the cause for these shootings.
We can go back and forth on why this happens. I’m not here to debate it. I am here to say in a short and sweet manner, if everyone was nice during their day, I firmly believe it would help.
There’s too much anger in this country.
One article I came across talked about a fast-food manager quitting their job after 20 years because customers have become awful. The employee cited it’s gotten out of hand the way customers treat him and his co-workers.
Bullying is an epidemic in our schools and in the workplace. Are we trying hard enough to fix this problem?
I understand there are a few reasons for people being angry, I get it. But what if we all started being nicer to the people we come in contact with each day. I think that would make a huge difference.
Hope all is well…
