inIf you’re staycationing in Brooklyn, there’s a neighborhood to visit that you might not have thought of: Windsor Terrace.
It’s tucked between Prospect Park and Green-Wood Cemetery. So if you’re going to the park’s BRIC Celebrate! Brooklyn Festival, a stroll around Windsor Terrace’s tree-lined streets is an fun preliminary activity.
First time hearing the word “staycationing…”
Oh well.
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle with a cool piece on the neighborhood. Some nice images included in the article below. .

Cool story – I think most of us have all been there.
“We used to follow their batting averages that I could tell you, on any given day in elementary school, exactly what the point up or down in Yogi Berra’s average was, or Mickey Mantle or anybody.”

inModell’s is closing shop. All 134 stores are going under.
Oftentimes I would take the F-train to Jay Street – always had good deals.

inReceived sad news this morning. Phil McNiff passed away.
If you knew Phil, you know what I mean when I say he was one of the best!
When I was a young kid I would always see him down on 5th avenue. It could either be outside or inside Timboos Bar. One Saturday afternoon inside the bar I played Bachman- Turner Overdrive’s “Taking Care of Business” on the jukebox. I was standing there reading the other selections and Phil came up behind me singing the words. I joined in and played some air guitar.
Phil always had an encouraging word or two. His dad Miles was a good dude too. I’ll never forget Miles once gave me ten bucks for my birthday; I ran to Sepe’s Toy store a block away.
When I started my short tenure as an Ironworker, Phil working in Billy Phelan’s Raising Gang down on the West Side Highway. I was an apprentice; Phil made me feel comfortable and taught me a lot about the business.
Over the years we stayed in touch through Facebook; Phil always posted comments on my basketball and Ironworking posts.
Condolences to Phil’s family.
R.I.P. Phil…
