My guy, and former 17th street resident Pat Fenton will be performing live…get out and check him out.
Tuesday night, February 19th, (THAT’S TONIGHT!) at the Cell Theatre in Chelsea, 338 West 23rd Street (between 8th and 9th avenues), New York, Pat will be one of the featured readers at the Irish American Artists and Writers salon.
Pat will be reading from a play he wrote about the writer Jack Kerouac.
Since its first appearance on stage at the Boston Playwright’s Theatre, “Jack’s Last Call: Say Goodbye to Kerouac,” has been recorded with a full cast on CD and aired on over 70 Public Radio Stations across the country.
Pat will be on the bill with T. J. English, who wrote the classic book of Irish American life in Hell’s Kitchen at a time when one gang ruled it all, “The Westies,” and his latest book, “Savage City,” actor Jack O’Connell who has appeared in “Mad Men,” and “Boardwalk Empire” and many other TV shows and movies will be reading.
Also, Larry Kirwan, leader of the Irish rock band Black 47 (there will be an excerpt from a film of a bus trip across Ireland with 3 busloads of his fans in 2003), and writer and newspaper columnist Mike Farragher author of “This is Your Brain On Shamrocks and his latest book, “50 Shades of Green.”
It all starts at 7:00 PM. Admission is free.
Donations to IAW&A appreciated.

Much thanks, Steve. But I made an important typo. The Cell Theatre is at 338 West 23rd Street–not 33rd Street.

Patrick,
If I was your 5th grade teacher at Holy Name, I’d take off a point from your paper!
LOL
Just kidding.
I made the correction.

If any of the readers are in the NY area, consider going to one of the nights at the Cell..it is a collection of writers presenting works-in-progress, finished works, songs, film etc- each person has 10 minutes to present their art- you will laugh, shake your head, be brought to tears and everything in between- it is free, but if you have it, you can donate towards the upkeep of the beautiful townhouse that showcases all this talent- of course, if you go on a night when Pat Fenton is reading- well, we call that lagniappe!

Thanks Maureen…

Had to look up the word “lagniappe”. It’s a Louisiana French custom, and who would know that better than Maureen. It means “getting a free extra item, something thrown in gratis for good measure.” I mean, damn, I got one of the highest grades in my GED tutoring class, I should know that. But that’s what you get for not hanging around Manual Training High School long enough to be 17.
Thanks for your kind words Maureen. To me, you are what Windsor Terrace is all about. What we used to call up in the old Hilltop Lounge on 18th Street “good people.”

wow, thanks, Steve- of course, I don’t agree, but is good to hear- (read)..Pat, there is NO reason you should have known that expression, it is used almost exclusively in Louisiana- I considered defining it, but then I thought if anyone were really interested…well, google is our friend 🙂 have a good week, everyone..

The mention of Louisiana is interesting since Louisiana is the only state in the country that has “parishes” rather than “counties” Well, the state is named after King Louis of France and France was heavily Catholic at the time… and the rest of history!!!
