Our guy Denis Hamill of the New York Daily News wrote about the tremendous support for Patrick Cregg after he put together a piece about Cregg’s van needs. In his latest piece he gives a shout out to the blog. That sportsfans, made my day!
Guys like Jimmy Houlihan from Farrell’s Bar and Cregg’s old pals in Windsor Terrace set up a fund-raiser, publicizing it on the popular Container Diaries neighborhood blog site. Another “good Irishman” who asked anonymity called Cregg and sent a check for $20,000.

I just heard about this site about two weeks ago & just went on it today. I’ve gotten a real kick out of it. By the way, my name is Bob Terry. I lived on 16th Street between 1955 & 1972. I attended Holy Name, Cathedral Prep & St. Francis College. I currently live in Beverly Hills. I was happy to see Gerard Conlon being honored; he was in my class @ Holy Name & we also attended St. Francis together. Gerard was a good guy as a kid & I’m sure he still is. I stop by the old neighborhood occassionally (first stop is always Farrell’s; another good guy – Jimmy Houlihan & let’s not forget his brother, Bobby). I ran into Gerard Kent the last time I was in the neighborhood. I also saw Father (now Monsignor) Pfieffer three years ago – retired out @ St. Helen’s now. I maintained a friendship with Kevin Fogarty over the years – God rest his soul – one of the finest people I ever knew. A lot of the finest people I’ve ever known came from our neighborhood : Bobby Kent, Eddie Kent. Donald Kent, John Vesey – not to mention the brothers & priests @ Holy Name – Monsignor Downing, Sister Joseph Christie, Brother Romanus, Jim Blair (Brother Guardentus – now lives in Florida), Brother Duane (my confirmation name). I could go on & on. I traded emails today with Brother Leonard Conway out @ St. Francis Prep. By the way, Holy Name has a terrific pastor, Father Gary Rogers, a Cathedral alum & go see the newly remodelled church. We were all very lucky to experience this fine neighborhood. I hope to see all of you @ the next event.
