“You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.”
-Johnny Cash
Michigan’s punter drops the snap. Ball is loose, he tries to punt it away. Michigan State’s 11-man rush comes rushing in like a pack of wild dogs. Spartans come up with the ball and run it in, 40 yards on the last play of the game.
Spartans win.
Thanks for coming.
Arrive home safely.
KC Royals taking on the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 2 of the ALCS. Lazy fly ball to right field. Jays second baseman and right fielder coming together. Someone is going to catch it, right?
Wrong.
Ball bounces in. Base-hit.
Royals go on to rally.
They win the game. Lead series 2-0.
Shit happens.
Mistakes are made.
“Told ya to take the Spartans plus the eight points,” Bobby told Fat Tom as they stood outside Farrell’s this morning.
Both guys are waiting for a ride down to Farragut Road. Farrell’s football has a big game against McBears.
Bobby was sipping on a large coffee from Pynn’s deli, light and sweet. He knows Fat Tom went against what he said last night and went ahead and bet Michigan. He loves Jim Harbaugh.
“How about Joey Bats and that second baseman letting that ball drop in,” Fat Tom responds as he reads the lines from the Daily News on today’s NFL games.
Fat Tom bet the Jays. He took a bath on Saturday.
Spartans underdog eight and half?
How did that happen?
They were undefeated coming in.
David Price rolling along for the Jays. At one point he retired 18 straight Royals. (George Brett and John Mayberry were not coming through those doors)
“I like the Cubs tonight,” Fat Tom says as Bobby walks into Farrell’s.
Bobby stopped betting two years ago but every now and then he gives Fat Tom a few games to bet.
He lost it all.
Was working every day for the bookie.
Bobby knows he made a lot of mistakes with his hard earned money as an apprentice Ironworker. He was about to get his union card in one month.
“Boy Matt Harvey was amazin’ last night,” Fat Tom says. He doesn’t realize Bobby walked into the bar.
