Reinventing ourselves is how we stay fresh, engaged and rebuild our will to live life with enthusiasm. I’ve done it a few times. We all do it. Kids do it. It’s part of any successful life. We are warriors. Warriors of Life.
And whether we are consciously aware of it or not, we know that helping others is the best way to stay fresh, engaged and strengthen our will to live life with enthusiasm.
It’s the way to get back in the game.
I’ve been inspired by so many who have posted here over the years, including you, Steve. So many good people doing God’s work. Wish I could recall their names now. Bob Terry comes to mind.
As the boxer Mike Tyson said, “We’re all just passing through.”
As another once said,”Were all just renting our time here.”
A good weekly sermon refreshes our spirit and connection with the human family. A great sermon can well up tears.
Whenever I have felt my spirit flagging I’ve often turned to pearls of wisdom.
A brief respite for all ye wandering souls. A few quotes.
“We shall pass this way on Earth but once, if there is any kindness we can show, or good act we can do, let us do it now, for we will never pass this way again.”
“You have to leave home to understand home.”
Christina Koch, NASA Astronaut
Lao Tzu (circa 601 BCE) quote: “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. When the student is Truly ready, the teacher will disappear.”
Words for the Ages:
This photo of Earth — the “pale blue dot” — is just one frame of a “solar system portrait” that Voyager 1 took, roughly 4 billion miles away from home.
Here’s part of astronomer Carl Sagan’s speech about the image:
“We (NASA) succeeded in taking that picture, and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there – on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.”
Time to go inside and get the fresh groceries I drove to the Adams Fairacre Farms market in the suburb of Poughkeepsie for. Had to write my Container Diaries entry first, sitting in my Sienna minivan in the parking lot. Steve’s been getting sparse contributions lately; gotta do my part, lame as it might be. Their four large stores in the Hudson Valley, on both sides of the Hudson River, are THE best farm fresh markets in these parts. As good as anything you can get in Manhattan. And if you’re a “celebrity” watcher, you’ll occasionally spot some famous faces in the Adams family stores. The family opened their first one up here in the outskirts of Poughkeepsie about a hundred years ago. You like old time Americana? They’ve got it here in spades. Every time I shop here it’s like a trip back to the late 50’s (when I was a scrappy little kid).
Al, that was beautiful. I hope everyone reads it. Very uplifting. Ever since I began to read quotes, and motivational stories, my life changed for the better. I begin every day with a message/quote to get going and throughout the day I read short reminders to keep me going. Thanks for all your contributions on the blog. Have a great day.
