Thanks to Mike Larkin for this image.
Looks like someone crashed into the circle and knocked down the monument.
Did you know that in 1965, the Patrick J. Devaney Post #964 erected this polished black granite monument in memory of the men of the community who gave their lives in wartime defense of their country? (Source: nycgovparks.org)

this must have just happened, but I am 98% sure this is not the first time, I remember it being down in the early 70’s- can anybody verify this?
Lineman said:

That part of the “circle” was always an accident waiting to happen.

I remember being a new driver and dealing with the other knuckleheads going around that circle and the one by the Parade Grounds…. would not suprised me if it had been knocked down before…
hoopscoach said:
The Parade Grounds circle is much bigger…

Hey Pat,
I don’t run from anything now. Not because i am brave just because i am old.

thanks Pat, I thought so- I passed by this morning and it looked like an amateur film crew standing around the scene.
