One of my favorite games of all-time.
What comes to mind when I say…
Bohack? Helping people to their car with their groceries in hopes of being compensated with some change…
Wild Irish Rose? First wine I ever tasted and got trashed on. Only .99 cents…
Red’s Shoe Store? Sitting inside on the chairs talking baseball…
I was sent this link to the official website of the ‘Welcome Back to Our Neighborhood Reunion‘. Click on the link to get all the information you need for the reunion on April 10th.

Bohack was a great place! I remember the times we had in that place! Bohack’s was closed on Sundays. We used to use their parking lot for either a football or a baseball field. We even rode on our bikes there in the evenings when the supermarket closed.
Red’s Shoe Store was a classic place too. I don’t think that my mother bought too many shoes for us in that place for we went down to Mr. Gutter’s. Red was a character. As he aged he took on Carmine and Big Jimbo as his helpers which gave the place some flavor!! The shoes in his window display were in there for ever and through the years the sunlight faded those shoes out completely but somehow Red never changed those displays!!

Great post. I was also a bagboy at Bohacks..When I hear Gerald’s I think of the grapefruit and vodkas we used to drink in the “alamoes” along the Prospect Expressway. We used to talk baseball with Mr. Sullivan (who was in his 80s) at the candy store by 16th and 9th avenue. I was pretty good with baseball trivia and they used to fire questions at me as soon as I had a foot in the foor.
I hated shopping (still do) but Red made the experience okay by talking sports with you. He was a nice man. And of course, when I hear egg cream: Rae’s & Otto’s.

Good Old Days at Bohack. I remember jumping my bike off the concrete ramp near the backs doors and then making higher ramps with the wooden crates from the garbage in the back. Actually split a couple of bikes in half from jumping so much. Worked in the deli for about a year. Played stickball, softball, and football practically everyday. Chased by Carl the cop who lived next to the rear and would chase me, Mike C. Al Nacco, the Kenny and Fasano brothers out of the back. We would get into alot of mischief in the back of that lot. I remember the Brennans back yard face the parking lot. Matt was some ball player. Making some change packing bags and carrying bags to the cars. Made snow ramps to sled, we did alot in the parking lot it was like our personal school yard.

Bohack memories,
I remember walking along the ledge from either Woody’s, Slater’s or Bullocks house holding onto the fence just to get to the Bohack parking lot. The neighbors either yelling at us or just looking at us saying nothing. I remember one house had grapes growing from a Vine, that was pretty cool.
We would climb to the top of Bohack truck that was parked on the side sometimes. We could fill a whole day of fun, excitement and get into so much mischief. Those were the days.

Patrick, great memories. The back of Bohack was always a bit on the dirty/smelly side, right?

If my memory serves me right, that house was the DeLouise house. I remember trying to take peaches off their tree. Lucky I was friends with Claudia.

You really got in my head with that music!
I used to help my great grandma shop at Bohack’s. It stunk to high heaven and the foor was covered with sawdust. She used to have a little “push cart” for the groceries and I’d have to pull it up the steps on Seeley St.

That’s right, the first aisle was covered with sawdust…LOL

Wow!( when did it change over too key food 1977???? Gerry Simmonelli was the best carrying bags to cars didn’t even ask if you needed help, he would just pick up bags and start carrying them (then put his hand out for some change) I think we all took that on after seeing all the money he took in!!! the bullocks yard was the best hanging up on that fence and waiting for there crazy pet duck of Matt’s( medwick) to attack . GREAT TIMES!!!! Man i forgot about the saw dust , NOW I CAN SMELL IT!! Also when we all worked in key food later as teenagers we would sneak beer out of the the garbage compactor in the back there was a little opening on the side (we made)and pick them up after work!!! (Hey that $3.35 an hr just wasn’t cuttin it in 1982!!!!!
