Wanted to wish two good people, Geraldine Cregg and Gerard Trapp a happy birthday!
Enjoy the day!
I miss the Bookshelf. That was a little piece of heaven on Windsor Place!
Purchased my first paperback there…
“Foul” the story of Connie Hawkins.
I loved that book shop..I would bring in my old books, and purchase used books for a fraction of the cost..Mrs.Cregg would beckon me in to tell me she had just gotten something she knew I would want to read…I am so happy that Community took over from Babbo’s Bookstore up on 9th..I like having an independant book seller in the neighborhood..you can order anything you want from them and have it in 2-3 days…but, I still miss the Book Shelf….happy birthday, Gerri!
I hear about less and less people reading these days. I hope that’s not the case…
“Foul” was a fine book about an incredible payer whose NBA career was unjustly shortened.
Jim who was the best High School basketball player you ever saw in person?
Lew Alcindor, by far
When Lewie was a soph, his breakout was his first game, vs LaSalle and its All-America center, Val Reid(Syracuse). In front of a packed gym at Power, the students counted each blocked shot of Reid by Lewie–the first 7 in a row ! As well, many of the weapons that eventually made him great were debuted: turn around jumpers, underneath out of bounds alley-oops for slams. It was evident that a star was born that night.
That was in December of ’62, the first of 71 wins in a row and 3 CHSAA titles.
With Gerard Trapp next
Or maybe Connie Hawkins
Does anyone remeber what was there in the 60’s?
Thanks for the birthday wishes Red, 59th
Jim, what a memory of alcindor, very lucky to
have witnessed that.
All good G-Man.
Hope things are well on your end.
