Hope everyone had a great 4th. Now it’s Monday morning and everyone is back to work. It was fun while it lasted. Get after it like never before…Having a job to go to each and every morning is a blessing. I wanted to send a special shout-out to my girl Mary K who has made the move from Brooklyn to North Carolina…good luck girl!
Received an e-mail from Chris B and he wanted me to remind everyone about the Annual Peter Heaney Fishing Trip out of Sheepshead Bay on July 25th, 2009. For more info call 347.622.0869. Ask for Brook.

Hoopscoach,
It always amazed me at the New York – Carolinas connection.
Frank McGuire was at both North and South Carolina… Always wondered if Larry Brown had gotten the coaching gig at his alma mater, whould he have moved so much? What was amazing about UNC that in 1957 coach McGuire’s starters were all NYC kids..that’s the team that won in triple overitme versus Wilt’s kansas team for the NCAA crown. The SOuth Carolina connection is not bad either, Brian WInters and John Roche come to mind…

Don’t forget Mike Dunleavy Sr., Mike Doyle and Kenny Reynolds all played for McGuire at USC,

Hey Coach, Lets not forget one of the best high school players of all time in nyc, Kevin Joyce (dan Conlons idol). ***Just a reminder to all on the blog: The Wounded Warriors are coming to Rockaway this weekend, starting with their arrival tonight July 9th. They will be coming over the Verrazano at around 5pm or so, to the Belt parkway and then into Rockaway and Breezy at around 6pm. Could be a little later depending on traffic. This is a group of soldiers who have been injured in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. They will have a police and fire department escort. Please come out to the route and pay tribute to these heroes as they pass. Let them know we appreciate their sacrifice. Thanks

I just recently heard about the site and it brings back the great childhood I had growing up on 16th bet. 9th & 10th. Farrell’s was a cop/firefighter hangout, Ebingers, Rays & Ottos, Red Shoes, Bob’s Hardway, Sanders, Bonalli’s, L&J bakery, Coyne’s cleaners . . . I was a HN grad of ’74. Sledding down Suicide hill, hot summer nites at the Bandshell – Having the park as my backyard was the absolute BEST!! Thanks!

Never thought much of leaving Brooklyn. But after talking to the candidates for the vacant City Council seat I’m beginning to rethink it.

Peter Heaney was a big man with a big heart! He was my classmate at HN -Class of 1977. Peter was probably one of the toughest kids growing up due to his size and strength but was always respectful and kind to others.
He left this world too early. I remember the whole Heaney family on 16th Street. They were and still are great people. My best to the Heaney’s wherever they may be residing these days.

Dear Glenn,
Thank you for your nice words. It’s true-he was a big man with an even bigger heart! Peter will always be one of the nicest people I will ever know.
I live out in N.J. near Kathleen and my parents. Thomas, Mary, and John are in Pennsylvania and Patrick is still in Bklyn. His kids are in Holy Name. We have funny memories of the neighborhood and school. It was a great neighborhood to grow up in. So many wonderful people.
All our best to you and your family (and the class of 1977)
Ann
