Tommy
Its really a small world - Brother Bruce was in seminary school with my uncle and and told me some funny story about how they were in charge of a chicken coop. My uncle left the seminary and became a N Y C policeman.

Tommy,

I recall going over to LaSalle and meeting with Brother Henry. My mother and I hopped the F-Train to 2nd avenue and as we sat in his office, he told us all about LaSalle. I was a transfer student and he was telling me how important it was to get off to a good start that there are a lot of people here that will help me.

Wish I would've stuck it out. A handful of good people from the neighborhood attended LaSalle.

Hey Mary Anne...how's it going? I went to Bro. Bruce's ordination with Sophie Loesch, remember her from the Brothers House? Right after he got ordained, Fr. Matt Diamond did the wedding of my cousin to his nephew.
Small world, no?

Does anybody from LaSalle remember Bro. Paul Carnicelli? He was a franciscan brother and what a hoot!!! Old style Italian from Brooklyn. When we lived in the same house, he was beginning to get very sick (kidneys/diabetes) and I used to make up his tests and grade them. He used to tell me "Cole, what the hell are you being so tough for? They have enough to worry about with all those other stupid teachers. He taught health and history classes mostly. The best part was that he taught a bunch of guys I had taught in grammar school from Yorkville - Andermanis, Varga, Liska, Kline, etc...He was a great story teller. And I as I remember he didn't care for Bro. Henry much...thought he was a bit pompous...LOL!!!

Billy,

LOL, we all know why but maybe we should refrain from discussing it much further. There sure was a whole lot of ethnic groups of students on 2nd avenue. Sorta like the UN.

Mo,
That's '20/20' investigative reporting-type stuff! I knew I was right about 11th street being the border going towards Saviors.

OK, I spoke to someone in the rectory today, she went and got a map. She told me the parish boundaries go like this, from 7th ave, the odd side, to Seeley St, the odd side. However, it only goes down to 7th ave from 20th St to 15th St, the upper side. Then only the odd side of 8th ave is included down to 11th st, on the even side. I hope this clears things up, I was pretty sure my block 13th bet 7th and 8th was out of the parish, because of the tuition thing.

I am glad to hear that LaSalle is not closing, I graduated in 1978 (Class of '74-HN). Coach, you mentioned Brother Hnery Betz, former assistant principal. Sort of a strange guy. Every where I go I meet some LaSalle graduates. For such a small school, it was very diversified-kids from all over the city. During my tenure it was actually very good in basketball and track. By the way I am told that Betz is living upstate on a retirement-type farm; wonder why?

Post #44 has a list of Park Slope R.C. churches, but does not include St. Augustine on 6th Ave and Sterling Place. This is a really beautiful church and was my favorite when I lived in real estate agent-defined Park Slope.

What amazed me was if one were to stand in front of St. Francis Xavier on 6th & Carroll, St. Augustine and Our Lady of Peace were the equivalent of a par 6 away. With the churches so empty, can you imagine a time when 3-parishes were needed to service such a small area? I don't know the outer boundries of those parishes, but that is a dense spacing of churches.
