A notice on the comments board of the following.
The Wounded Warriors are coming to Rockaway this weekend, starting with their arrival tonight July 9th. They will be coming over the Verrazano at around 5pm or so, to the Belt parkway and then into Rockaway and Breezy at around 6pm. Could be a little later depending on traffic. This is a group of soldiers who have been injured in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. They will have a police and fire department escort. Please come out to the route and pay tribute to these heroes as they pass. Let them know we appreciate their sacrifice.

Saturday night is the super “Block Party” on 134th Street Beach Block that will also have about 1000 people attend with a donation going towards St. Camillus’ Special Olympics, to help them fund their special projects throughout the year! it is truly a beautiful sight to see, as the Special Olympicians host the Wounded Warriors!
Sunday morning there is a outdoor Mass at the 9/11 Memorial to start thier day, followed by a simple awards ceremony and then off to Ground Zero!

AS Father Pete said, its an amazing weekend. We are lucky to have these men and woman willing to sacrifice for all of us. Their spirit is very inspirational, and just seeing them or even saying hello or thank you will change your outlook. Pete, Are you saying the mass on Sunday?
Yes Dan I celebrating the Mass Sunday, I’ll also be at the block party tomorrow… …I’ll buy you a beer
My wife and I recently went to a fundraiser (Staten Island) for a young man named Bendan Morrocco who lost his limbs in Iraq.. It was great to see a turnout to help. His mother announced to us he got a kiss from Angelina Jolie and recently walked 100 feet with porsethics and spoke about his courage before and after and after the attack on his jeep. Not a dry eye in the place. Sadly three other young men died during the attack. I am proud to have a cousin in the Marines who served in Irag ( hurt twice) and now in Afghanistan. no matter what your politics are, you have to salute and admire these young men and women for their sacrifice. We have to always keep them and their families in our prayers.
Jimmy Vac, Brendan Morrocco came to Rockaway for the Wounded Warrior weekend because he wanted to help the other soldiers, who were just starting their rehab. Pretty incredible kid.
Definitely. I did not have the good fortune of meeting him but the turnout for him was incredible..For him to be helping others so soon after what he went through speaks volumes about him.
