I have been informed that there will be a social/reunion on Saturday, May 24th at 7:00 PM for all members (or former members) of ‘The Huns’.
The special occasion will take place at where else, but Farrell’s Bar and Grill.

Now, this group was well before my time and the only thing I actually recall is that someone spray-painted THE HUNS, on the wall in P.S. 154. (Wonder if anyone will fess up to that one?)
Kathy G has informed me that ‘Anyone and everyone is invited‘. (Did that offer stand when members of The Huns were being selected back in the day?)
Was their an initiation to gain membership?
How about someone send me a ‘guest blog’ via email on the history of the Huns and some of it’s noble members. I would love to post it on the front page.
Respectfully,
SF
hoops135@hotmail.com
I think we started in 1969,I think it was Danny Burns who came up with the name.
I don’t remember an initiation per say other then someone had to bring you in.
The Huns I remember were:
,Jerry Brown,Danny Burns, Corrado Candiano,Keith Carlson,Jimmy Casino, Kevin Coles,Charlie Disponzio,Peter Finegan,Tony Fasano, Charlie and Tommy Kawas,Marty Lang,Donnie Meege,Harry Mills,Pat Oconnor, Dennis Orlando, Tommy Pakorny,Dennis Williams
If I left anyone out I’m truly sorry(chuck it up to old age)
This was the nucleus. there was always guys coming and going
There wer two guys, Scotty and Jr, I never knew their last names or even where they came from but they hung out with us too.
We had alot of good times as well as bad but I wouldn’t want to have had these times with anyone else. We had our differences some time but when #@$% happened you wouldn’t want anyone else to have your back. The picture of some of us in 154 school yard is very deceiving. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on May 24th
On a lighter note I guess you would say.
We were a very fun loving low key group who liked sports and long walks on sandy beaches, girls, sunsets and puppies. we always took the time to stop and smell the roses. we were more of a social club(ha,ha,ha)
Tony, I guess old age must have set in already. Charlie Desponzio and I created the name. Also, there was an initiation. Every new member had to “walk the gauntlet” under the Seeley Street bridge. Hope to see you at the reunion.
Thanks guys…Dennis Williams was the man!
Hey Charlie how are you? I am getting old, I forgot about the Gauntlet but man is it coming back to me now.
I really had no idea how the name came to be.
Janet and I can’t wait to see everyone.
Tony F.
If I remember correctly, me and Charlie Kawas were walking down Sherman Street or we were on Seeley Street by the park when we thought of the name for our gang. Charlie K. is correct, the initiation was walking the Gauntlet under the Seeley Street bridge.
It was many years ago.
Hope to see you soon.
Charlie,
We lived up the block from the Orlandos and knew them well… Was Kevin Chiles in the Huns? Was’nt the Saxons the arch enemy? And was’nt there a gang called South Brooklyn.. I remember Donny Rice and I were telling people we were the little Saxons..
we were about 9 at the time!!!
I’m glad there was no initiation for the girls, but we did have to be asked-in. Pat M. (a/k/a Skinny Pat) befriended Roseanne Flanagan. That is how Donna H., Pat M., and I became Hun girls. The tough reputation melted away after meeting Linda P., Franny and Jeanie, and Bunny. Everyone was so nice!
Hey Charlie D. remember the camping excursion to Harriman State park? What was her name, Brandy? See you on the 24th
hey charlie how are you doing, hows your dad! i remember you breaking your brothers chops to get out of the basement, so you guys could play pool !!
Hi Kathy,Janet wants to know if any of you girls are coming on the 24th? if so who?
Hi Tony,
Donna F. will be there, I’m counting on Linda P., Franny, Jeanie, and Bunny. Can you get in touch with Donna H. and Cathy B. It would be great if they could make it too. Look forward to seeing you then.
Sounds good. See everyone on the 24th.
Hey Harry,
You coming? Thanks for contacting me.what made you look on that site? I very rarely look on there, I’m glad I forgot to take the “alert me” off.
Hi Huns
bamasamadama true hun to the heart
its so good to read about the huns, best years of our lives
looking forward to the 24th.
if I remember we were looking in our history books from holy name to find our name. the saxons wanted us to be the jr. saxons and we said either we are saxons or huns. we took the huns and the rest is history.
see you all on the 24th
Tony F.
You have a good memory, I forgot all about that girl. I never expected to get a girl on a camping trip.

I know it’s hard to believe but 7th Avenue people do have computers. (Yes Charlie K my kids do have to turn it on for me and after my index finger starts to hurt they finish the typing for me. But hey, what do you want expect from a guy who still plays his records ) I just heard about your reunion and I just want to wish all The Huns the very best and I hope you all have a great time. And don’t be suprised if a few of us 7th Avenue folk show up just to see if “Old Man Time” has been as cruel to you as he has been to us
Jack Kelly, Mike’s older brother? If so, you were a very solid football player. What I recall mostly about you was being an outstanding leader - vocally you were had a presence…
Hopefully I’m correct on your identity?
JACK, BRING THE VOLKS BROTHERS WITH YOU AND WHERE IS CHARLIE CUMMINGS HIDING OUT?
Yes, I’m Mike’s older brother. And yes I was very vocal. And in keeping with the spirit of the web-site the more containers I had the more vocal I got
Jack,
Laughing Out Loud! How is Mike - the cat was aces!
Glad to see you made it and make sure you ‘ice-down’ that right index finger after each comment!
Wouldn’t a reunion football game be an excellent idea? We can get them to shut down ninth avenue between Windsor and 16th or better yet, lets just hold it in P.S. 154 or P.S. 10 schoolyard!
Hello Tony, Charlie Cummings lives up-state. I see him at weddings and funerals. And as long as the funerals are neither his nor mine we are both very happy with the arrangement.
Hoopscoach, I hope your kidding. I get tired just watching games on TV.

Hello Harry, I believe I seen Brian C. about a year and a half ago at his niece’s wedding. From what he told me he’s doing great. I believe he and his family were living in London, UK for awhile. Also I already said hello to Billy C. for you and he sends his regards. You know Harry, I do believe it’s almost 40 years ago when I first met you and Brian in freshman year at Bishop Ford. 40 years use seem like a long time when you were 14 but now looking back it does’nt seem that long ago at all.
Yes Jerry they were good days hanging out in McBears not a worry in the world. Then our parents wishes came true. We had kids. Paybacks
hey tony me and jerry made friends about 6 months after that happened. because of that, i got out of gym class for a month.

5:00 Charlie K.? You folks start at 5 by 11:45 you all be home in bed
Mr. Kelly,
Is it to far of a concept,to belive that we, older people would not want to sit back and rejoice in our history ,and reflect on the succeses of our peers. And also to mourn our losses. Is it Better to do such , at 3am? 5pm is the optimal time,it is the time of family gatherings, if nothing else being a hun is being FAMILY
TOMMY FRASER
Tommy, it sounds like youve been doing a little rejoicing/reflecting already.
When did you become so Shakespearian?
Why don’t we meet in the middle and say 6:30
tony,
you are correct i had indulged myself in large amounts of amber liquid.
as for my pattern of writing,i like to showoff my holy name education every now and then.but i am getting off track, whatever time you guys & gals agree on is fine with me. see you sat
tommy
hey jackie yes, you are right. we will all be home in bed by 11:45 AM sunday morning. i’m gettin’ to old to be out any later than that. are there still after hour joints in bay ridge, mc donald ave or the hook ? it HAS been a while !!! HM
Hello Mr. Fraser, I stand corrected. As you say 5:00 PM is the family hour and from what I see you folks have more spring in your step then us 7th ave folks. I have’nt thought of an after hour joint since 1980 and here’s Harry Mills inquiring about “After Hour” joint locations.
THANKS HARRY,
after hours , never would have thunk of it . mr. kelly no hard fellings . but not all of us look like santa clause !
tommy ( santa ) Clause
