It’s March 17th 2008 and this morning as I was going through my daily ritual, I noticed people wearing green and of course the infamous question, ‘How come you’re not wearing any green?’
I’m sorry but I don’t think I own any green clothing! (I’m sure my daughter’s classmates are asking her the same question this morning and she’ll yell at me when she gets home after school for not telling her it was St. Paddy’s day)

Thinking back years ago I recall attending the St. Patrick’s day parade in Manhattan.
We’d get on the train and head over early in the morning. I think we even skipped school on occasion.
There would always be about 25-30 of us on the adventure boarding the F-Train at 15th street-PPW; but for some strange reason on the way back after a long day, there’d be only a handful of us remaining.
People always found a way to get separated.
Food and booze were a big part of the celebration. Green beer and the green pizza…yummy!
As for the celebration in the neighborhood, yesterday was the Irish-American day parade. I received a few emails from people who attended and it seems like it was a great day. I recall standing along side the parade route and watching everyone walk by.
I vividly recall much about the parade but I do know I never had the opportunity to join the marchers. I have the sight of Tom Cuite majority leader of the city council being the Grand Marshal and always seeing Joe Ferris waving to us as he walked by.
The parade would start at the circle and head down 15th street making a right turn on 7th avenue. I’m not sure how far it went down 7th but I do know that it turned back up and came along the parkside all the way back to the circle.
As teenagers we’d sit on the wall or the benches cheering the bagpipes.
Weren’t they the best?
They were my alarm clock earlier that morning as some of them parked in the girls schoolyard and practiced a bit right out on the avenue.
I always thought they looked silly in their kilts at the time but when I look back, and I have matured - I think they look great in them!
The sounds of the bagpipes playing at the Irish American Day parade will always be in my head…
HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY TO ALL!

It’s funny how green is represented as the official color of Irleand. But today if you wore blue, either St Patrick’s Blue (light blue) or Presidential Blue(dark blue) the Irish would smile and say”Now there’s a fine Irishman”.Happy St Patrick’s Day-BL
BL,
Thanks for sharing. Who ya got in the NCAA tournament?
i was at the parade yesturday i met up with charlie. k billy, k n maryk. mike brunton mike guido, broadway & some other friends. I said what’s wrong with this picture? We were drinking containers of coffee, looking at Farrells from the post office, while the younger crowd was drinking containers of beer. They were partying like rock stars, like we use to be. There was one quick fight n everythging was back to normal. The parade was short, not too many people marching, but the partying i’m sure went on though the nite. 7 ave crew had a reunion down the K. OF C. This day brought back lots of good memories of when we use to pack the back of the bar all day n nite. They were the good days, no responsibilities

Not a UCLA fan. That’s Fred. I’m ND. by the way Ford hoops are in the Class A state finals in two weeks
Coach, I think this may be the year Kansas wins it all but they have a history of melting down.
Rich, that’s great news about Ford in the state finals.
Oh yeah, that’s right. I may have to go back on my UCLA pick - Love is hurt and so is the only cat up front. Not sure if they can win six. I’m bummed Coppin is out. I love Fang Mitchell!
Ford in the finals huh? Wow…I knew once I left, they’d turn the corner.

Bob Knight is the best!
I was never a fan of his; but after moving out to the Midwest and actually having a close-up of him I have learned a great deal.
BL,
I have until Thursday to switch but upon further review, screw it! I’m sticking with the Bruins.
A few years ago we went out to California with Ford’s varsity and we had a chance to visit the campus of UCLA - awesome place.
