Blog contributer Mike Purdy recently talked about skitching when he left a comment. Now, we have all done some bad things in life, especially growing up as youngsters but skitching had to be one of the worst. What, you don’t know what I’m talking about?
Let me explain.
Skitching is grabbing onto the back bumper of a [...]

For the people who grew up in Windsor Terrace during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, do you recall your first job, but within the neighborhood? I’m talking about something you did within a mile or two of your house? (Getting on the ‘F’ train and going into Manhattan doesn’t count).
Did you have a paper route? [...]
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Posted in Blog, tagged Greenwood Lake, Turkey on November 22, 2007 | No Comments »
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. I recall going upstate to Greenwood Lake with my family to celebrate along with my cousins. We always would put on a ‘play’ for the adults. If we happened to stay home, we’d eat turkey, stuffing and sit around the table telling stories and of [...]

Growing up in Windsor Terrace, not only was sports a big part of our lives, but music also helped us make it through the day (and night).
I recall listening to 45’s, album’s and 8-track’s. I enjoyed all types of music. Motown, Rock, Dance, and soul.
Taping songs off the radio was a favorite thing to do; [...]
ROUGH-TOUCH

Thanks to GT’s comments about football, who recalls Farrell’s football? Remember the team? - The players? Practice down PS 154 on Saturday afternoons? I was just a youngster at the time and the things I recall were fascinating!
The practice sessions were rougher than the games. These guys went at it. [...]
THE HANG OUT
Posted in John Devaney, tagged Hang out spots, Prospect Park on November 12, 2007 | 7 Comments »
Everyone has been there. It was the place where you got together with your friends, day or night (but mostly at night). It was a place where you got away from your parents. A place where you felt safe with your peers. It was a place where you shared secrets, drank a little booze, took [...]

STICKBALL - THEN, NOT NOW

Do kids still play stick ball? Do kids know what stick ball is? Do they still sell spalding rubber balls? We called “Spaldeens”.
How about sick ball bats? Remember those? Ray and Otto’s sold them for I think $1.29?
We played everywhere. In Prospect park, on Windsor Place, 12th street, 9th avenue…The [...]

Mick Jagger sang about it, “Time, Time, Time, is on my side…Yes it is!” Remember what we did with our time? We played ball, we hung out, went to the diamonds, the lot, we spent time in the schoolyard and of course, we spent time in Farrell’s.
We played football, two-hand touch or tackle. The pads, [...]

Living in East Lansing, Michigan it’s very hard to get a good slice. (In Detroit, Buddy’s, is a big time place but that’s more than an hour away).
One thing I miss about Windsor Terrace - Brooklyn and New York is the pizza.
Joe’s Pizza on 9th avenue. Frank’s on 7th avenue and Prospect avenue. (The [...]
